Really good things are happening here

Hey guys! This is your annual website review covering May 2025 to May 2026. We've gone through all the data and there's a lot to be excited about, so let's walk you through it.

Up significantly — SEO visibility growing strongly

So first up... yes, overall visitor numbers are down on last year. But before you worry about that, we need to give you some context because the real story is actually a positive one.

Last year there were some paid social media ads running that sent a big burst of traffic to the site. That traffic has gone this year because those ads stopped. When you strip that out and compare apples with apples, the gap is much smaller, and more importantly, the number of people who actually clicked "Book Now" barely moved. 609 this year versus 622 last year. That is essentially flat, which is a great result.

The short version: Fewer visitors, same leads. The SEO work we've been building is doing its job, bringing the right people to the site rather than just anyone. Quality over quantity, and it's working.

Where your visitors came from

Every visit to your website comes from somewhere. This is the breakdown of where people found you this year and how that compares to last year.

Traffic sources: what they actually mean

We know this stuff can feel a bit confusing so here's what each of these actually means in plain English.

SourceWhat this meansSessionsvs Last Year
Organic SearchPeople who Googled something and found you2,873−18%
DirectPeople who typed your web address straight in, they already know you1,015−16%
ReferralPeople who clicked a link to you from another website209+33%
Social MediaPeople who clicked through from Facebook or Instagram140−82%

So the big social media drop... that's the paid ads stopping, which we mentioned above. Nothing to worry about there. Your organic social (just your regular posts, no money spent) stayed pretty similar.

The referral traffic going up 33% is actually really exciting. That means more websites out there are now linking to Talbingo Lodge than before. This is a direct result of the content pages we've been building, the fishing guide, the Yarrangobilly Caves page, the Selwyn Accommodation page. Other sites are finding them useful and linking to them. That's exactly what we want.

Monthly visitors, this year vs last year
2025–26
2024–25
Monthly visitor comparison.

You can see July is still your biggest month... that's snow season, people heading to Selwyn and looking for somewhere to stay. What's exciting is that January and the autumn months are starting to creep up, which means the content we've built around warm-weather activities and fishing is beginning to pull in visitors outside the ski season. That's a trend we want to keep building on.

How Google sees Talbingo Lodge... this is the good stuff

This is where it gets really exciting. Search Console shows us something the traffic numbers don't... how many times Google put your website in front of someone, even if they didn't click through yet.

An "impression" is every time your website showed up on Google's results page. 140,000 impressions means your website was put in front of potential guests 140,000 times. That is the reach of the SEO work we've been doing, and that number keeps growing.

What people are searching to find you

This is one of our favourite parts because it shows the SEO strategy working exactly as planned. You're showing up for three really distinct groups of people.

talbingo lodge 510 clicks
talbingo pub 207 clicks
talbingo dam fishing 60 clicks
selwyn snow resort accommodation 40 clicks
things to do in talbingo 39 clicks
accommodation near selwyn 32 clicks
talbingo fishing 48 clicks
mt selwyn accommodation 30 clicks

Your branded searches, people searching specifically for "talbingo lodge" or "talbingo pub", are clicking through at 22% and 17%. That is really strong. When someone looks for you, they find you.

And then you've got a whole cluster of Selwyn snow accommodation searches all starting to point to Talbingo Lodge. That's not one page doing the work... it's the whole ecosystem we've built around that topic, and it's paying off.

Here's something really cool... the Yarrangobilly Caves and Selwyn Accommodation pages are now getting more Google appearances than your own homepage. These pages are acting as a front door for people who've never heard of Talbingo Lodge. They search for a cave tour or ski accommodation, and there you are.

Google clicks over time

Monthly click trend data.

July 2025 was the peak, snow season doing its thing. But look at the broader trend. The off-season months are improving. January, March, April... these are growing, which tells us the content we're building around fishing and summer activities is starting to pull its weight. That's a really good sign.

Worth knowing: 70% of your Google searches are happening on mobile phones. Your site handles mobile well, but it's worth us doing a quick check of the booking journey on a phone to make sure nothing's getting in the way of someone completing a reservation.

What visitors actually did on your site

Traffic getting to your site is only half the story. This is what happened once people arrived, and there's a lot to be happy about here.

609 Book Now clicks with fewer overall visitors... that's actually a better conversion rate than last year. The people coming to your site this year were more likely to be genuinely interested in booking. Less tyre-kicking, more intent.

The form submissions jumping from 29 to 97 is a big one. That's a 234% increase in people reaching out directly through the contact form. That means leads are being captured even when someone isn't quite ready to click Book Now, which is exactly what you want.

Interesting that the Eat page is ranking so highly... people are clearly checking out the food before they decide to visit. Makes sense for a pub accommodation. And having Contact and Book Online both in the top eight means people are regularly reaching the point of wanting to take action. That's the goal.

Who's sending people to your site... and ChatGPT is on the list

Referral traffic means someone clicked a link on another website and landed on yours. This year that number went up 33%, so we dug into exactly where those visitors came from. And there's one source in here that's really exciting.

ChatGPT is now sending people to Talbingo Lodge. This year, 44 visitors arrived directly from ChatGPT, with zero coming from there last year. This is a brand new traffic source that didn't exist for you 12 months ago, and it's a direct result of the SEO foundation we've built.

When someone asks ChatGPT something like "where should I stay near Mt Selwyn?" or "is there somewhere to eat near Yarrangobilly Caves?", ChatGPT is now recommending Talbingo Lodge and linking through to your website. That only happens when your site has strong, well-structured content that AI systems can find and trust. It's a really good sign for the long term.

And it's not just ChatGPT. Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity are also sending visitors your way. AI search tools are becoming a bigger part of how people discover businesses, and Talbingo Lodge is already showing up in them. That's something we're really proud of.

PerplexityAI search engine10

A couple of things worth calling out in that table. The "your own site" row showing 125 key actions is really high, which tells us the internal links between your pages are working well. People are landing on one page, clicking through to another, and then taking action. That's a good content ecosystem doing its job.

Visit NSW dropped from 64 sessions to 18, which is worth keeping an eye on. It's possible your listing there needs a refresh. We'll take a look at that.

The AI traffic story in one sentence: 48 people visited Talbingo Lodge this year because an AI tool recommended it, and 22 of them took a meaningful action on the site. Last year that number was zero. This is only going to grow, and you're already in the game.

What we'd suggest doing next

The data is showing some really clear opportunities to grow your traffic and leads further. These are our recommendations, and if any of them sound interesting, just get in touch and we can put together a quote for you.

Suggestion 01
Get more clicks from the Yarrangobilly page

This page is appearing in Google 53,943 times but only getting 84 clicks. That's a really low click-through rate of 0.16%. The page is ranking well, it's just the title and description shown in Google that need a tweak. That alone could make it one of your highest traffic pages.

Suggestion 02
Push "talbingo accommodation" up the rankings

This search term gets 6,134 impressions, loads of people looking for it, but you're sitting at position 9.6 on average. Just outside the top results. Getting into the top 5 for this term would likely double or triple the clicks coming through.

Suggestion 03
Build out the off-season content

Winter ski season is still your strongest period, but the data is showing growing interest in summer and autumn activities, fishing, Yarrangobilly, things to do. Adding more content around warm-weather visits would help bring in bookings outside the snow season.

Suggestion 04
Review the mobile booking journey

70% of visitors are on their phones. It's worth walking through the full booking process on mobile, from landing on the site to completing a reservation, to make sure nothing is getting in the way. Small friction points can quietly cost bookings.

If any of these sound like something you'd like to explore, just reach out and we'll put together a quote. No obligation at all, we just want to make sure you know what's possible. You can get in touch at theofficient.com.au or reply to this email.

All in all, a really solid year

We know it can feel a bit deflating seeing visitor numbers down on last year. But when you look at the full picture, this has actually been a really good year for the website.

The paid advertising from last year inflated the traffic numbers in a way that looked great on paper but wasn't really converting into bookings at the same rate. This year, without that, your organic audience, the people who genuinely found you through Google, through other websites, through knowing your name, held steady and kept booking at the same rate.

609 Book Now clicks. Same as last year, with fewer visitors. That tells us everything.

And then there's the SEO story, which honestly is the one we're most excited about. 140,000 Google appearances. Content pages outperforming the homepage. A growing cluster of snow accommodation searches pointing to Talbingo Lodge. More websites linking to you than ever before. That is the long game, and it is working.

Thanks so much for trusting us with your website. We're really proud of what the data is showing and excited about what's coming next. As always, any questions just give us a shout.
